 The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous and sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is located in Varanasi (also called Kashi), Uttar Pradesh, India, on the western bank of the holy river Ganges.

Built/Rebuilt by: The current structure was built in 1780 by Ahilyabai Holkar, the Maratha ruler of Indore.


Temple Complex: Includes smaller shrines and is part of the Kashi Vishwanath Corridor, which connects the temple to the Ganges River.

The temple is constructed in Nagara style architecture.


The shikhara (spire) is plated with gold, donated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab in the 19th century.


The inner sanctum contains the Jyotirlinga of Shiva.

Inaugurated in 2021, the corridor project improves accessibility from the Ganges to the temple.


It features spacious walkways, sculptures, and facilities for pilgrims.

Daily rituals include Mangala Aarti, Bhog Aarti, Sandhya Aarti, and Shringar Aarti.
