Built in the 12th century by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of the Eastern Ganga dynasty  .


Dedicated to Lord Jagannath (a form of Vishnu), along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra, carved from neem wood and ceremonially replaced every 12–19 years in the Nabakalebara ritual  .


Features the awe-inspiring Kalinga-style shikhara, rising to about 65 m (214 ft), adorned with intricate carvings and four cardinal gates  .

Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival): the world-famous nine-day festival in June–July where the three deities are placed on massive chariots and pulled through town  .

Best times for darshan: early morning (5–7 AM) during Mangala Aarti; evenings (6–8 PM) post-Sandhya Aarti are less crowded  .


Dress & entry: Only Hindus allowed inside. Visitors should wear traditional attire (dhoti/saree/salwar). No electronics or leather items permitted  .


Darshan tickets: General darshan is free. VIP or time-slot tickets can be booked online via the official portal  .
