It is dedicated to Lord Khatu Shyam, believed to be the Kaliyuga form of Lord Krishna and the reincarnation of Barbarika, the grandson of Bhima (one of the Pandavas in Mahabharata).

The temple attracts devotees from across the country, especially those seeking blessings for courage, prosperity, and the fulfillment of wishes.

2. Historical & Mythological Background

In the Mahabharata, Barbarika was a warrior blessed with three infallible arrows.

Before the Kurukshetra war, Krishna asked Barbarika whom he would support; he said he would fight for the weaker side.

Krishna realized Barbarika’s involvement would change the war's balance repeatedly and prolong it indefinitely.

Disguised as a Brahmin, Krishna tested his power and finally asked for his head as charity.

Barbarika offered his head, and Krishna blessed him:

In Kaliyuga, you will be worshipped as “Shyam” (Krishna’s name).

Your devotees’ wishes will be granted by just remembering you with true devotion.

His head was placed on a hill to witness the war. Later, it was found in Khatu and enshrined here.
